CONCORD, N.H. – The winner of a $487 million Powerball ticket has an open invitation to appear on NBC’s Today Show in New York City—but the Today Show will have to wait along with the rest of the world. As of Monday, August 8, no one has claimed a winning $487 million Powerball ticket sold at Hannaford Supermarket on Freetown Road in Raymond for the drawing on Saturday, July 30. The winning ticket marks the 10 th winning Powerball ticket sold in New Hampshire and the first since 2007.
In a letter sent to New Hampshire Lottery headquarters in Concord and addressed to “Powerball Winner,” Today Show producer Alan Cohen invites the as yet unknown winner to take part in an interview with world-famous host Matt Lauer.
“There is so much anticipation as the whole world waits to meet the $487 million Powerball winner. This is such an exciting time for the New Hampshire Lottery and our players,” said Charlie McIntyre, executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery Commission. “While we cannot wait to meet the lucky winner, we certainly understand winning a sum of $487 million is a life-altering event and we respect that the winner needs to do his or her due diligence before claiming this incredible prize. The New Hampshire Lottery looks forward to working with our winner to make this $487 million prize a reality.”
The winner has two options, taking a lump-sum cash option of approximately $341.7 million or the option of an annuity payment over 30 years. In the one-time cash option, 25-percent of winnings would be withheld for federal taxes, netting the winner about $256.3 million. The annuity payment offers a graduated plan that increases annually. An estimated $7.3 million payment would be made the first year and the 29 th payment would be an estimated $30.2 million—each before taxes.
The Powerball drawing results from July 30 were: 11-17- 21-23- 32 PB-5 with a Power Play of 2.
In addition to the winning Powerball prize, Lisbon, N.H. resident Jeffrey Osborn won a $1 million Powerball prize from the July 30 drawing. Osborn bought his ticket at the Cumberland Farms at 278 Meadow Street in Littleton. During the same Powerball drawing, Rodney Stedman of Mason, N.H. won $50,000 from a ticket sold at Spitbrook Market, 108 Spitbrook Drive in Nashua.
Also during the July 30 drawing, a $100,000 winning Powerball ticket was sold at the Discount II Plus Deli, located at 1294 New Hampshire 16 in Albany.
Powerball tickets are on sale at more than 1,250 retailers in New Hampshire until 9:50 p.m. Wednesday. Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. Drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11 PM.
